Requirements to Take the Certified Medical Billing Specialist (CMBS) Exam 1) Enroll in an accredited medical billing course
2) Receive an "A" in the course
3) Contact the Medical Association of Billers (MAB) to schedule the certification exam approximately 30 days after completion of the medical billing course
4) Send (1) a check for $199 to pay for the exam and (2) a letter stating your name and address so you can receive your test results

7) Take the CMBS exam
